Many years ago I was at an event hosted by a fairly well known speaker who wanted to sell attendees into a program that involved walking on hot coals. I know many people who have done this. I’ve also been at events where people do other physical “stunts” (for lack of a better word) as a way to prove they can do anything and that they are stronger than they think. I’m not putting down or criticizing this type of display.
But it’s important for us all to remember, that we ALREADY have the ability to do whatever we want with our lives. You don’t need to do some great feat that has nothing to do with your goals and passions to prove to yourself you can achieve what you want. Realize that your mind is the most powerful tool you have. It does not know the difference between fantasy and reality and so whatever you feed your mind is what IT WILL BELIEVE!
One of my past clients was a family therapist who shared with me a lesson she had learned many years earlier. She’d had a client (she did not disclose any personal details) who had multiple personality disorder. The client needed surgery and the doctor was concerned, because when this person changed personalities THEIR BLOOD TYPE CHANGED!
You read that correctly!
Their blood type changed.
So the family therapist worked with the patient prior to surgery doing hypnosis, and then during surgery stayed with them speaking to them the whole time. She had to constantly remind the client to remain as Personality A, because if Personality B emerged during surgery it could be deadly – because the blood being infused would be the wrong type and could kill them.
Different personalities within a person with multiple personality disorder can exhibit different allergies, heart rate, different reactions to medication and different blood pressure readings.
So, what value is this to those of us with only one personality?
We know that we CAN CHANGE OUR MINDS.
We can manage our thoughts and make our lives different because of those thoughts.
If you are watching television news or movies that are violent on a regular basis you may see the world in a negative way and stop believing that you can accomplish your goals. But if you listen to inspirational, motivational and educational information on a daily basis you will soon see positive changes in your life.
How can you change YOUR mind to be more successful?
- Write down your goals each day.
- Listen to audio books or watch inspiration videos instead of the latest cop drama on television.
- Surround yourself with people who are smarter than you.
- Challenge yourself to change your behaviours.
- Learn something new each day.
You truly can change your mind!
What’s stopping you from starting today?
I’m walking with you (and it doesn’t have to be on hot coals) as I work to make my mind more powerful and focused, and my life more passionate!
